The gentle sparkles of out of focus light (BOKEH) are represented by circles of pearlescent transparent paint, as the roses form a natural bouquet. The bokeh are interference colours that disappear and appear as you walk past as the light is only reflected at certain angles.

It was painted on a heavy duty stretcher bar that is 68mm high and this gives the piece a lot of presence, although it is deeper than the largest float frame so this is not an option for this piece.
